OUR MISSION

MGCI HOSA aims to foster curiosity in youth about the healthcare field, open up doors to underserved individuals, and provide both competitive and non-competitive healthcare-related opportunities to those in our community. Through various initiatives, including co-op placements and workshops, we aim to create an inclusive environment that empowers individuals to pursue their goals and make a positive impact in medicine.

Founded in 2018, MGCI HOSA has seen success year after year.

Here's a timeline highlighting some of our members’ achievements...

2019-2020:

21 members placed top 10 in the Spring Leadership Conference (SLC), qualifying them all for the International Leadership Conference (ILC).

2020-2021:

23 members placed top 10 in their chosen events at SLC. Of those members, 6 were ranked among the top 3, allowing them to advance to ILC as per the updated requirements.

2021-2022:

19 members placed top 10 in SLC with 11 advancing internationally.

2022-2023:

37 members placed top 10 in their respective events in this year’s Fall Leadership Conference (FLC), a precursor to the Spring Leadership Conference!

Since members self-study to compete in these competitions, our executive team regularly organizes events and materials to help students reach their fullest potential. Such initiatives include:

• Monthly “HOSA days” where members complete short tests based on specific chapters from the texts they study from
• Regular workshops for members with case studies to practice practical skills such as splinting and CPR techniques
• Setting up co-op opportunities for driven members like volunteering at local pharmacies to help prepare prescriptions and manage orders for patients
• Fireside chats with professionals such as Dr. Lee Errett, a renowned cardiac surgeon and Professor of Global Surgery at the University of Toronto
